ABOUT THE ESOP

The European Symposium on Occultation Projects (ESOP) is the annual conference of the European section of the International Occultation and Timing Association IOTA/ES

ESOP symposia came into being in 1981, when the first meeting of members of IOTA / ES was held at its headquarters in Hannover (Germany) was held. Since then, the symposium has been organized every year without interruption. The full history of ESOP can be found on Otto Farago's homepage:
 https://www.farago.de/ESOP/index.htm

At ESOP you will meet people not only interested in occultation observations, but also in computer programming, development of hardware and new technologies, and so on.

Most attendees are amateur astronomers. However, an ever increasing community of professional astronomers are interested and active in this kind of astronomical events. Thus, more and more professional astronomers are, also, taking part.

ESOP is really a place where Amateurs and Professionals join forces to make  important advances in the field of occultation possible, including  the determination of diameters and atmospheres in Transneptunian Objects (TNO), the refinement of the Moon limb, the discovery of double stars, and much more.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Barcelona!

For the registration form click here.

ESOP XXXII will be held in CosmoCaixa Barcelona, a modern and interactive science centre managed by
Fundació La Caixa one of the most important cultural institutions in Spain.

Due to the international character of the symposium, all lectures are to be presented in English.

Current economic circumstances are making difficult to attain financial help. We are greatly indebted to the La Caixa Foundation, for the  loan of the  conference room "Agora" in CosmoCaixa for free. However, the LOC is still searching  for sponsorship.  Therefore, we are hoping to make cuts in some prices in the next weeks. In that case, we will directly inform those participants who have already make their registration.
